Step by step
How to use Find and Replace
Step 1: Paste the source, enter a literal search phrase in Find text and enter its replacement. Leave Replace with empty to delete matches.
Step 2: Choose case sensitivity and whole-word matching, then select Replace all. The result message reports non-overlapping matches.
Step 3: Review the replacement preview. Dollar signs are literal replacement characters; the input stays unchanged for another run.
Example to try
Load example and keep Find text as Hello and Replace with as Welcome. Two matches are replaced, producing Welcome world. Welcome reader.
Literal search without regex surprises
The search phrase is treated as ordinary text. A period matches a period, parentheses match parentheses and a plus sign matches a plus sign. Enter the desired replacement in the second control; it can be empty to delete matches. Dollar-sign sequences such as $& remain literal replacement text instead of expanding into matched content. Use Regex Tester for expression experiments rather than entering a regex here.
Control case and whole-word matching
Case-sensitive matching is enabled by default. Disable it to replace different capitalizations of a phrase. Whole words only requires that the match is not immediately next to a Unicode letter, combining mark, digit or underscore. This helps replace cat without replacing the beginning of catalog. Punctuation acts as a boundary, so review hyphenated terms and apostrophes when using whole-word matching.
Output limits and local processing
The result message reports how many non-overlapping matches were replaced, including matches whose replacement happens to equal the original text. Replacement does not run repeatedly on newly inserted text. For example, replacing Hello with Hello Hello performs one replacement for each original occurrence, not an endless sequence. Check the count and the output before using the result in important documents.
Inputs and results are held only in this page's memory. Text inputs accept up to 100,000 character units each. Oversized pastes are rejected while preserving the previous input. Generated output is limited to 5,000,000 character units. No sign-up is needed. Copy and download actions are explicit; the tool does not upload your drafts or save them for a later visit.
