How to compare two PDFs
Step 1: Drop the original PDF and the changed version on the box above. Put the original first; drag to swap them if needed.
Step 2: Select Compare PDFs. The text of both is read and compared line by line.
Step 3: Read the changes on the page, or select Download report to keep them as a Markdown file.
What is compared
The text of each page is read and compared line by line. Lines that were removed are struck through in red, lines that were added are underlined in green, and where a line was edited rather than replaced, the changed words are marked inside it. Each change shows a line of unchanged text on either side so you can find your place, and the pages it comes from.
Differences in spacing are ignored, so a re-flowed paragraph does not count as a change unless its words changed.
What is not compared
Only text is compared. A changed picture, a different layout, new fonts or colours, and edits to a scanned page (which holds no text) will not show up, and a PDF with no text is reported as such. If the two PDFs are very different documents, they are too different to compare line by line, and you are told so.
Text in tables and columns is read in the order it sits on the page, which can mix up cells; a table that changed may show as several changed lines.
The report
The downloaded report is a Markdown text file listing every change with its pages, in the same layout as the standard diff format, so it can be pasted into an email, a ticket or a review. The page shows the first 40 changes; the report holds all of them.
Private
Both PDFs are read inside your browser tab. Nothing is uploaded, and the comparison is forgotten when you close the page.
