Step by step

How to convert an image to JPG

  1. Step 1: Drop a PNG or WebP image on the box above, or select Choose file. The tool works out which one it is.

  2. Step 2: Leave JPG quality at 85, or move the slider: higher keeps more detail, lower makes a smaller file.

  3. Step 3: Select Convert to JPG, then Download JPG.

One tool for both formats

If you are not sure whether your image is a PNG or a WebP, use this page: it reads the file to find out, rather than trusting the name, and converts either one to JPG. If you already know the format, PNG to JPG and WebP to JPG do the same job with notes specific to each.

JPG is the safest format to send: email clients, office software, older phones, online forms and printing services all open it. It suits photos well and keeps their files small.

Transparency and quality

JPG cannot store transparency, so transparent and partly transparent pixels are placed on a white background. Keep the original if you need the transparent background, for example for a logo.

Quality 85 keeps photos looking the same to most people at a fraction of the size. Choose 90 to 95 for images you will edit or print again. JPG compression is lossy at every setting, and logos or screenshots with sharp edges can come out larger than the original PNG; the result screen shows both sizes so you can compare.

Private

The conversion runs inside your browser tab. Your image is never uploaded, and nothing is kept after you close the page.

Frequently asked questions

Which formats can I convert to JPG here?
PNG and WebP. The tool checks the file's content, so a file with the wrong extension still converts correctly.
Why did my transparent background turn white?
JPG has no transparency, so transparent areas are filled with white. Keep the PNG or WebP if you need them to stay see-through.
Will the JPG be smaller?
For photos, usually. For logos, icons and screenshots it can be larger than the PNG. The result screen shows both sizes.
What quality should I choose?
85 suits most uses. Use 90 to 95 for printing or further editing, and 60 to 75 when a small file matters more than fine detail.
Is my image uploaded?
No. It is converted inside your browser tab and never leaves your device.
