Step by step
How to remove a password from a PDF
Step 1: Drop a password-protected PDF on the box above, or select Choose file.
Step 2: Type the PDF's password. It is used for this file only and never stored.
Step 3: Select Unlock PDF, then Download PDF.
You need the password
Unlock PDF removes protection from a PDF you are allowed to open: you type the password once, and you get a copy that opens without it. It cannot guess, crack or bypass a password you do not have, and it will not try.
If the password is wrong, the tool says so and nothing is changed. Passwords are case-sensitive, so check Caps Lock and the exact spelling. If you no longer know the password, ask the person or organisation that sent the file for an unprotected copy.
What you get
The unlocked copy has the same pages, text and images as the original. The pages are not re-rendered or re-compressed, so text stays selectable and images keep their quality. Only the protection is removed.
Remember that anyone with the unlocked copy can open it. Keep it somewhere private if the content is sensitive, and use Protect PDF to add a new password before sharing it again.
Private
Everything happens inside your browser tab. Your PDF and its password are not uploaded, logged or kept, and the password is cleared from the page once the file is ready.
