Crop image

Cut away the edges of a picture, freely or to a shape such as square or 16:9.

  • Free, no sign-up
  • Files stay on your device
  • JPG, PNG or WebP / up to 25 MB

Step by step

How to crop an image

  1. Step 1: Drop a JPG, PNG or WebP image on the box above, or select Choose file.

  2. Step 2: Pick a shape or keep Free, then drag the box and its handles over the part to keep. You can also type the exact area in pixels.

  3. Step 3: Select Crop image, check the preview, then Download image.

Shapes for every use

Square (1:1) suits profile pictures and many social posts; 4:5 is the tall feed format; 16:9 fits video thumbnails and slides; 9:16 fits stories and phone wallpapers; 4:3 and 3:2 match most camera photos. With a shape chosen, the box keeps that shape while you resize it. Free lets you drag each edge on its own.

The grid inside the box splits it into thirds, a common guide for placing the subject. The numbers under the picture show the exact area in pixels and let you type it, which is also the way to crop using only a keyboard.

What you get

Only the area inside the box is kept; the image keeps its format, and PNG transparency stays. Cropping does not resize what is left: a 1000 × 800 pixel area stays 1000 × 800. Use Resize image afterwards for an exact final size.

Phone photos are shown upright and cropped that way, so the result looks right in every app. JPG and WebP photos are saved again at a high quality, and camera details such as the date and location are not copied.

Private

Cropping happens inside your browser tab. Your image is never uploaded, and the original stays unchanged on your device.

Frequently asked questions

How do I crop to a square?
Choose Square (1:1). The box becomes the largest square that fits; drag it over the part you want to keep.
Can I set an exact size in pixels?
Yes. Type the left, top, width and height under the picture. With a shape chosen, typing one side sets the other.
Does cropping lower the quality?
Cropping only cuts away the edges; it does not blur or shrink what is left. JPG and WebP photos are saved again at a high quality, so they look the same, but they are not a byte-for-byte copy.
Can I crop several images at once?
Not yet. Crop one image at a time.
Is my image uploaded?
No. The crop is made inside your browser tab and your image never leaves your device.
