Step by step

How to convert PDF to PNG

  1. Step 1: Drop a PDF on the box above, or select Choose file. Its pages appear as thumbnails.

  2. Step 2: Click the pages you want, or leave them all unselected to convert every page. Then pick a resolution.

  3. Step 3: Select Convert to PNG, then Download. Several pages come as one ZIP file.

Why PNG instead of JPG

PNG keeps every pixel exactly as drawn, so the sharp edges of text, charts and line drawings stay clean, without the blur and speckles JPG adds around them. It is the better choice for screenshots of documents, slides, diagrams and anything you will edit further. Photographs are smaller as JPG; use PDF to JPG for those.

The cost is file size: a PNG page is often several times larger than the same page as a JPG, and the difference grows at higher resolutions.

Resolution and white background

96 dpi gives screen-sized images, 150 dpi, the default, keeps small text readable, and 300 dpi is for printing and zooming in. Pages are drawn in your browser by PDF.js on a white background, so the PNGs are not transparent.

Up to 50 pages can be converted at once, and very large pages are drawn at a lower resolution when needed to stay within the megapixel limit. Text becomes part of the picture and can no longer be selected.

Frequently asked questions

Are the PNG images transparent?
No. Pages are drawn on a white background, as they would print.
Why are my PNG files so large?
PNG stores every pixel without loss, so pages with photos or gradients are large. Lower the resolution, or use PDF to JPG if the pages are mostly photographs.
Can I convert only some pages?
Yes. Click the thumbnails of the pages you want, or type a range such as 1-3, 5.
Is my PDF uploaded?
No. Everything happens inside your browser tab and your file never leaves your device.
